Roll Practice YMCA Pool, Irmo, SC
Let Certified ACA instructors Jen Weaver and Karen Kustafik troubleshoot your roll at a special Diagnostic Roll Clinic being offered from 7 to 9 p.m. during this Thursday’s roll practice session at the Irmo YMCA. If your roll is good, let them help you master an offside or hand roll.
The clinic will start with a brief review of c-to-c and sweep rolls and tips on how to fix common roll problems. Students will then hit the water with the instructors working one-on-one to improve their roll technique. Videos taken of students rolling will be used to provide feedback.
Cost for the clinic is $15 for PP members, $20 for non-members. The fee includes the pool practice fee. Proceeds from the clinic go to the club and will be used for safety instruction or pool time. Contact Les at www.palmettopaddlers.org to reserve your spot.
It’s also the last chance this season to get in some warm-water roll practice. Paddlers should arrive with their clean boats at 7:15 p.m. The fee is $7, $13 for non-members. To sign up, contact Les Case.
Limited to 15 boaters each session; reservations required.
Pool fee: $7 for Palmetto Paddlers members or $13 for non-members
You can join Palmetto Paddlers for annual dues of $20 ($25 family).
Required equipment: kayak or canoe, spray skirt, paddle, and correct change, please. A towel and dry clothes for afterwards are suggested. Showers and lockers are available. Bring your own padlock.
We will meet at the Irmo YMCA at 1501 Kennerly Road at 7:15 PM. See map link below. Look for a fleet of brightly-colored plastic boats at the far left (south) end of the YMCA building, near the pool exit door.
VERY IMPORTANT: All boats must be completely clean inside and out—we will inspect and provide additional cleaning of all boats before they are brought into the pool area. Remove all float bags and equipment from your boat (throw bags, first aid kits, old sandwiches, etc.)
Instruction may be available if willing instructors show up (they usually do). The primary purpose of these sessions is practice.
