Meet at the Nantahala put-in at 1130 at the parking area near the put-in, in front of the little footbridge that crosses the little stream by the restrooms/changing rooms. map of put-in Those carpooling from Columbia should meet at the Home Depot at 7:45 AM to assure an ontime arrival at the river.
This trip is for moderately experienced whitewater boaters who are comfortable in Class 2+ rapids. One Class 3 rapid will be encountered near the take-out, but it can be portaged. Expect very cold water temperature, even on a hot summer day—dress accordingly.
Required equipment: PFD, helmet and whistle. Whitewater kayaks need spray skirts. Recreational boats are not permitted. A towel and dry clothes for afterwards are recommended. Bring water and maybe something to snack on the river.
Meet me at the put in at 11:30 AM to organize a shuttle. I'm with a red and white swirl canoe. If you need a river pass, get it early enough so that you can get to the put in by 11:30. Passes available at the NOC outfitter’s store ($1/day or $5/year). If you run short of time, we can buy your pass when we run shuttle.
Please do not just show up on the day of the trip; you must first sign up or contact the trip coordinator. Space will be limited, depending on your abilities and how many safety boaters sign up.
Plan to attend? Contact the Coordinator. Please inform the Coordinator in a timely manner if your plans change and you can no longer attend.
