Black Creek is a beautiful Cypress/Tupelo lined creek that feeds into Prestwood Lake in Hartsville, SC. The lake section is straight forward but once we enter Black Creek there are plenty of turns and wonderful scenery. There are a few houses along the creek and for the most part it is undeveloped. Parts of the creek have some mild current but it's very manageable if you have some experience and it's a good place to practice some boat handling skills along the way. Longer recreational kayaks, sea kayaks and canoes are appropriate and since there are very few stumps and no rocks so it's also fiberglass boat friendly.
Plan to meet at 10:30AM in Lawton Park located at 716 Prestwood Dr, Hartsville, SC 29550. We'll begin by signing the trip waiver, follow that with a safety meeting and review of the trip before launching. The temperature at this point is expected to be about 65 but the water is still cold so dress accordingly. (Don't wear cotton clothes for paddling) You'll need to wear a properly fitting PFD with a whistle attached, bring water and a snack for lunch. This is a out and back trip so we will not need to run a shuttle.
