Middle Ocoee, Saturday April 8, 2017
Meeting at the private boater take-out at 9:30 AM Saturday. Contact the coordinator if you are interested in joining this trip. Do not just show up.
The Ocoee is a classic Southeastern whitewater run, set in a beautiful, deep, mountain gorge that offers lots of great play and plenty of action. This is a Class III+ river with good roadside access. Qualified first-timers are welcome, but participants should have a decent combat roll and be comfortable catching and leaving eddies in fast current.
Required equipment: PFD, helmet and whistle. Whitewater kayaks need spray skirts. Recreational boats are not permitted. A towel and dry clothes for afterwards are recommended. Bring drinking water and sunscreen. Weather dependent gear: At this time of year, cool air temperatures may dictate a drysuit or a drytop and appropriate underlayers.
Please do not just show up on the day of the trip; you must first contact the trip coordinator. Space will be limited, depending on your abilities and how many safety boaters sign up. Please inform the Coordinator in a timely manner if your plans change and you can no longer attend.
Not a lot of hotel options close to the Ocoee, but Dalton, Cleveland, and Murphy have multiple options within a 45-50 minute drive of private boater take out. I (Sean) will be staying in Dalton Ga, but if anyone needs campground info, here it is:
