Upper Green River: Class III--intermediate boating skills are required.
The Upper Green is set in a beautiful, deep, mountain gorge that offers a wilderness experience and a handful of challenging rapids. This is a Class III river with no roadside access. Qualified first-timers are welcome, but participants should have a combat roll and be comfortable catching and leaving eddies in fast current. The hike out is strenuous.
Required equipment: PFD, helmet and whistle. Whitewater kayaks need spray skirts. Recreational boats are not permitted. A towel and dry clothes for afterwards are recommended. Bring drinking water and sunscreen.
Weather dependent gear: At this time of year, cool air temperatures may dictate a drysuit or a drytop and appropriate underlayers. Check the weather forecast closely.
Meet at the put-in on Pot Shoals Road at 10 AM. After shuttling, we should be on the river by 11 AM and off by about 3 PM.
Please do not just show up on the day of the trip; you must first contact the trip coordinator. Space will be limited, depending on your abilities and how many safety boaters sign up. Please inform the Coordinator in a timely manner if your plans change and you can no longer attend.
