Chattooga Section 3
Chattooga Section 3, level dependent
Section 3 of the Chattooga is SE boater favorite. Wild wilderness with Class 2 to 3 plus whitewater (1 easily walkable class 4 plus at the end).
If water level holds, we will put in at Earl's Ford and takeout at Bull Sluice.
Meet at Humble pie restaurant in Long creek SC at 9:30 AM. Carpooling from the Columbia area may be available. An early start is essential due to the length of this trip.
*** Intermediate boating skills are required. *** This is a Class III+ river with no roadside access. Qualified first-timers are welcome, but participants should have a combat roll and be comfortable paddling a relatively long route (13-miles, with several flat water stretches).
Required equipment: PFD, helmet and whistle. Whitewater kayaks need spray skirts. Recreational boats are not permitted. A towel and dry clothes for afterwards are recommended. Bring drinking water and sunscreen.
Weather dependent gear: At this time of year, cool air temperatures may dictate a drysuit or a drytop and appropriate underlayers. Check the weather forecast closely.
Please do not just show up on the day of the trip; you must first contact the trip coordinator. Space will be limited, depending on your abilities and how many safety boaters sign up. Please inform the Coordinator in a timely manner if your plans change and you can no longer attend.
