SOS: Sundays on the Saluda
Class II & III Whitewater (Class III optional--can be portaged)
Coordinators: Deborah Reyes & Jim Fleece
This Sunday we will paddle from the Put-in at Candi Lane above the Zoo to the Shannon rapids. We will attain back up to Millrace. No need for shuttle. Feel free to drop your boat before you park your car.
Participants should be comfortable in Class II whitewater and have proper equipment for the conditions: Whitewater Boat, PFD, helmets, & whistle. The Saluda water temp is cold (about 56 degrees F), so dress accordingly. Also bring plenty of fluids for hydration, snacks, and any safety equipment that you are trained to use.
We will meet at 1 pm at the Get your Gear On Parking area. Let me know if you have a lot key. We hope to be on the Water at the zoo no later than 1:15pm. We will take our time on our way down, catch some eddies and surf all the relevant waves. We will probably spend a little time at pop up as well. I expect to be back at the lot around 4:00pm. The maximum difficulty of this trip is class II except for the class III Millrace Rapid, which can be portaged. However, if the water is low I plan to practice some technical moves within the Millrace rapid. Rec boats (not recommended) must put in below Millrace.
Please contact the trip coordinators in advance if you plan to attend. If no one has signed up before hand, the trip will be cancelled. The trip may be cancelled if there are active thunderstorms during that time.
Parking location: Get Your Gear On
208 Candi lane
