THIS TRIP WILL BE RESCHEDULED TO A FUTURE DATE
Coordinator: Charlie Smith, Palmetto Paddlers
This is Class II-III whitewater, excellent for advanced beginners and intermediate paddlers wanting an opportunity to sharpen skills. Note: this trip may be cancelled or modified if there is not enough flow.
American Whitewater says “The Tuck is a fun little river and an excellent place to learn to paddle or work on skills. There are many places to practice eddy turns, ferries and peel outs without serious consequences. The minimum "fun" level is about 450-500 cfs with 800-1500 cfs being a nice level that covers up most of the shallow sections, without being too pushy. The rapids are wave trains/holes with good pools below to recover boats and swimmers.”
Required equipment: PFD, helmet and whistle. Whitewater kayaks need spray skirts. Recreational boats are not permitted. A towel and dry clothes for afterwards are recommended. Bring drinking water and sunscreen.
We will meet in Columbia at 8:00 AM at a location to be revealed by email. After re-loading boats and gear for carpooling, signing the waiver and swapping cell phone numbers, we will depart, possibly by 8:15 AM. We will stop for gas and a fast food breakfast near the SC/NC border. If you prefer to meet us at the river, contact me for specifics. There is a bathroom/dressing room at the put-in.
After shuttling, we should be on the river around noon and off by about 4 PM.
Please do not just show up on the day of the trip; you must first sign up or contact the trip coordinator.
Inform the Coordinator in a timely manner if your plans change and you can no longer attend.
