Thanks go out to Spenser and Jean Rice, Mike Hollis and Scott Sidener for the unselfish dedication of their time on a Saturday morning to help with this year’s annual Saluda River Cleanup. Two canoe loads of debris, including 2 syringes and a car fender, were gathered on the initial sweep and another canoe load was gathered on a peaceful, beautiful float down to Gervais Street. Cardinal flowers were in full bloom and mixed with the other wild flowers in bloom along the bank provided a feast for the eyes. This was a disappointing turn out of volunteers this year and it is my hope that the members missing were busy cleaning up their favorite bodies of water. Next year, if you love your rivers, let’s try a little harder to support this effort.
