We have a great trip coming up on SUNDAY, the 11th of February. It is one of my favorites and not too far away from Columbia. Come join us on the North Fork of the Edisto River, paddling from Baughmans Landing (Shillings Bridge) to the Rose Gardens in Orangeburg (about 8-10 river miles). We plan to reach the take-out before dark. (There is a great BBQ place in Orangeburg we can hit after the paddle for those that are interested.) It is a beautiful section of this river, fairly narrow with lots of twists and turns. You want to have good boat control to accomplish this trip and stay dry. It is appropriate for most kayaks and canoes though white water boats would get probably get uncomfortable for an all day trip. Do bring a spare set of clothes in a dry bag, for 'just in case'. Also, as always, bring cold, wind and rain protection, lunch and hydrating drinks.

You can meet us at 9 AM at the McDonalds on hwy 321 where it crosses I-26 and we can consolidate boats (for those that would like) and we can caravan from there together. Or you can meet us at 10 or so at the Landing. Take hwy 178, between North and Orangeburg and turn unto road 74 where there is a landing sign. The landing is on the right, just before the river. The new DNR South Carolina Atlas is very clear. We'll run shuttle to the take-out after we get unloaded there.

If you can join us, please email me at kwhitaker@agfirst.com. Please include your phone number in case there are any last minute changes and let me know where you plan to meet us. Hope to see many of you there. Happy Trails, Kate Whitaker
