Bates Old River
This is a nice, swampy area depending on the water level that Brian O'Cain originally shared with the Club. There are lots of exploring possibilities. It is an old oxbow off the River that has been mostly cut off and now forms its own adventure. All boats and skill levels welcome. Come explore with us.
This is a pretty place to explore. No shuttle to run so the length of trip is variable. All boats and skill levels are appropriate. Additional description of the area is on the website calendar. We will meet where Bluff Road crosses I-77 near the football stadium at 10. There is a gas station (Shell, I think) and a Burger King with a big parking lot where we can gather. It will take about 45 minutes to caravan to the 'landing'. We might want to consolidate boats to take as few cars as possible as the put-in is very primitive and there is not a lot of space. Depending on what the weather has been, there can be lots of mud and/or a deeply rutted road. The landing is to the left from hwy 601 between where Bluff Road turns into 601 and the Congaree River Bridge.
Glad to answer any questions. Love to have everyone come along. Email me at kwhitaker@agfirst.com or call me and let me know you plan to join us. Plan to spend about 4 hours on the water; bring snack, water, rain/wind/cold protection, as usual.
Happy Trails, Kate
