Paddling Black River near Kingstree if possible

My group wants to paddle Black River, putting in or taking out at Kingstree if possible.

We keep looking at the map of those upper parts and are afraid of getting lost in those tangles. Who has paddled them? Do you recommend the Pocotaligo or the Black? How hard is it to keep to the main channels?

Suggestions?

Susan,
I've been paddling and taking people down Black River for about 30 yrs. If the gauge at K'tree is below 3.0, you can expect plenty of small portages and strainers (but that also makes the trip anything but boring). It's a great river, but you probably need to call me one night to talk about it. If you want a pretty good idea of Black River, you should join the Lynches River trip this weekend. I'm also planning on making that trip. LAD

Black River

Great. Several of us are going on the Lynches trip Sat. I'll look forward to getting info about the Black River. If we don't get together then,I'll call. Thank you so much. Susan

Except for stretches in Georgetown County (Andrews and down), Black River is a good stroll. Leave your boat at home.
