Congaree Creek
Hi all. Ed and I have just conferred and decided to run a trip on Congaree Creek this Sunday, NOT Cedar Creek in the Congaree National Park! Please note the change in venue.
NOAA weather forecast as of now is for partly sunny and 66 degrees. The Cedar Creek trip from Bannister's Bridge would include a number of pull-overs and we have some folks wanting to join us that would have some difficulty with this skill; cool weather and water is probably not the best time for them to have fun with this kind of challenge. We will, hopefully, be able to reschedule it for this Spring, using the spring run-off for a 'free ride'.
Congaree Creek is a beautiful creek in West Columbia. We will do the stretch from hwy 321 to Old State Road. It is a Heritage Trust area and well worth the extra effort required at both the put-in and the take-out. It is a trip suitable for all paddle-propelled water craft; skill level required is moderate as there is some steering challenge. We'll meet at the put-in at 10 Sunday morning, run shuttle and be on the water by 11. We'll be off the water by 3 or so, with a stop for lunch/snacks. Bring cold weather gear, plenty of hydrating liquids and rain gear, just in case. A saw or two wouldn't be amiss; though hopefully they will not have to be unsheathed! The put-in is less that a mile from where hwy 321 crosses I-26, towards town before you reach the water treatment plant. It is just a small parking lot beside the stream, so be looking for it. I'll get there early so you can hone in on my car with boats on top. Call or send me an email if you have any questions.
Please let me know if you would like to join us. Should be a fun way to spend a Sunday.
Happy Trails, Kate
