Volunteers needed for Dam Swim
From Karen Campbell:
Dear Palmetto Paddlers:
Several members of your organization assisted the swimmers last year in the 2006 LHS Dam Swim for Drew across Lake Murray. This is a 2 mile open water swim the Lexington High School Swim Team does to promote boating and swimming safety. We set a course with stationary boaters from the boat ramp on the Irmo side of the dam to the beach on the Lexington side. Kayakers create a side of the race course and are great guides to help
keep the swimmers on course and assist in the event they are in need of help. Anyone who would like to volunteer their time and aassist us on Saturday, September 22, 2007, we welcome your help! We will meet at the Irmo side of the lake at the boat ramp at 7:15 a.m. Boaters and Kayakers will meet for a safety meeting at 7:45. Swimmers receive pre-race instructions at 8 a.m. and the first groups will go off the dock at 8:30
a.m. Swimmers will go in groups with neon colored caps marked with swimmer number at 10 minute intervals. We would love to have kayakers with each group and more throughout our course as spotters.
Interested kayakers, contact Karen Campbell, Meet Director, at
kwcampbel@aol.com. Or by calling (803) 996-0111.
Come out and support the Wildcats and other swimmers from across the state who join us swimming the dam in memory of a child who was killed on Lake Murray due to BUI.
