Hi Friends,
I need some suggestions for a one day paddle on Cedar Creek in the Congaree National Park area. Any and all info would be appreciated. I've never paddled this area before, and a scout troop has asked me to prepare a possible trip. Thanks,

Put in at lower Cedar Creek landing yesterday (10/23) and paddled up to Wise lake. very low water (creek was running below 2ft), but i had no portages in my kayak. a canoe would have had 3 or 4 portages I would guess. Don't know what it looked like downstream from the landing, but I imagine it was as clear if not clearer than upstream.

The trip from Bannister Bridge to the takeout at South Cedar Creek Road is a good day trip. You can see the route on this page. That page also has route ideas.
There can be a lot of deadfalls/strainers, so I'd check with the ranger to see if it's been cleared lately...it's been a few years since I paddled it. Good boat control is needed if there is much current.
Enjoy your paddle.
