Table Rock Hike, October 13, 2007
Hikers: 6 began and 6 finished. Dennis Catoe, trip leader, Nicole Catoe, Mike Hollis, Linda Gray, Shawn Sturkie and Chuck Stirkie.
Conditions: Weather was great in 60s when we began and rising to 70s. No clouds, clear sunny day.
This was not a trip for the faint of heart. Approximately a 10 mile hike and seemingly 9 miles of it up hill. The trip up took about 3 – 3.5 hours and 2+ hours back down. A very vertical climb which required rest breaks every 10 minutes in some parts. As demanding as the climb was, everyone enjoyed the great scenery and wonderful weather. The colors were starting to change for the fall. The view from the summit of Table Rock cannot be fully described. We stopped had our lunch with what seemed the whole world beneath us. It was hard to leave and start back down. Whereas the trip up pushed our lungs and muscles to the limit, the trip down tested our knees. Still it was faster and few rest breaks were need. We ended about 6:30 as darkness was starting to fall. Everyone ended with big smiles even if still gasping for breath.
