Lower Green River
Meeting: at NC Welcome Center on I-26 just as you enter NC (about 1.5 to 2 hrs from Columbia) at 10 am then short caravan to put-in. Good parking at put-in and take-out. Please be prompt.
Trip: Mild whitewater Class l and some ll when river at 100% (which it has been running lately). About 2.5 hour paddle, generally safe for beginners but boat control helpful to negotiate around rocks and ledges. If you have done Sunday on Saluda trips then this is similar just more rapids. Should be off river by 2 and back to Columbia by 4, plus an hour if any delays.
Boats: All but fiberglass. Shorter boats do better in turning but Mike Hollis went down in his day touring (15') kayak and managed to have fun and no spills.
Need: Helmets are required. Bring a lunch. Proper clothing- perhaps cold water, sun and always possible rain.
Contact: Dennis at e-mail address or call 730-1856 to sign up.
NOTE: Those interested but want to do it the following Saturday need to call me or e-mail me. It may be possible to run a second trip.
