Weston Lake, March 22, 2008
After a short briefing on the shelter & facilities, and introductions of attendees, Kate presented a nice talk about basic paddling strokes. Several club members added additional comments, and it was all good information. Then we paddled off into a rather brisk headwind, across the lake, and everyone landed at a small dock where the conditions were much more favorable for a live demonstration. Bruce and Ed showed various paddling techniques on the water, while we discussed application of those strokes from the gallery on the dock. Then we all got back into our boats and headed off to explore a tranquil cove where we searched for hidden Easter Eggs along the shore. Kathy Sheppard even found some Goose eggs. It was a fun activity and also an opportunity to experiment with some new paddling strokes! After burning all those calories, we were hungry for the wonderful picnic spread out under our shelter. There were prizes awarded for the most Easter Eggs recovered, and we have learned that some of our club members are very competitive! It was a good time of fellowship and swapping stories. A number of people took advantage, later in the afternoon, of a chance to try some different boats and paddles too. We had several new paddlers and the event was also well supported by our club officer contingency. "Thanks" to all of those who helped to make this event successful, informative, and safe!
