advice

Hi, I am new to the site. My name is Mike and i moved to Columbia about a year ago from the huge town:> of Elgin. I may end up in a kayak eventually, but my wife and i want to start out in a canoe. We are planning to join the Palmetto Paddlers group, so we want one that will be compatible with the types of paddling that you all do, whitewater and all. I have seen that there are a few canoes that go on the trips with you all, one of which is a dagger and another one was an old town. I couldnt tell what the others were. I know that all of the brands make canoes out of different stuff. I have also seen that some of your trips dont allow fiberglass boats. I would like to have a canoe that has a larger capacity as i am fairly large and dont want to ride real low in the water:> (the main reason for wanting to get out and be more active). I dont want to spend a fortune, but i am willing to spend a little more to get a canoe that i can use and be happy with for a long time. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike
