PFD
I could use some advice. As some of you know I've been paddling for many years. For the last 10 yrs or so I've been using the same PFD. It's a rather bulky, but effective, fishing PFD with a couple of pockets in the front. I paddle more blackwater and swamps than whitewater, but have done both this year. I primarily use my Old Town Loon single kayak. My weight has now blossomed (nice word) to about 190 lbs. I'd like to get a new PFD that maybe isn't so bulky, but can do the job when required. Can any of you that have recently bought one or make regular trips to one of the outfitters offer some suggestions based upon the above criteria? Thanks in advance, and I hope to see ya'll paddling soon. What a great club.

Hello Guy,
I too paddled for many years with standard "bulky" pfds, until I started paddling whitewater....most of the whitewater pfds ride higher on my chest, with larger arm exposure. I find this higher position to be more comfortable while paddling. There are many on the market....I suggest trying on several brands at an outfitter that carries both whitewater and flatwater...the ww pfds also have a mount for your knife...you never know when you'll need it in a hurry...like spreading peanut butter on your luncheon bread....
When can we do the Black River?
