Sunday on the Saluda
Due to releases in excess of 2,700 cfs at the dam as of eight o'clock this morning, it will not be safe for beginner paddlers to paddle the Saluda River today so the official trip is canceled. Please try to attend on the first Sunday of July. If you know anyone who was planning on coming that does not have email, please call them.
Dave and Dianne Mullis will lead a trip down the Lower Saluda River from the Zoo to Gervais Street amphitheater on Sunday June 7th. We will meet up at the upstream end of the Zoo parking lot at 1:00 pm to set shuttle. If you would like to set your own shuttle in advance, please feel free to.
This paddle involves one Class 2 rapid and requires boat control (rocks will find you). Boats should not be fiberglass and must have flotation to aid in rescue in the event of a spill. High water will cancel the trip to all but those experienced in Class 3 water. Paddlers must have adequate PFDs and Helmets. The water is very cold year round so dress appropriately for your safety. Please, no small children. If you have a throw rope, that would be welcome.
Bring liquids and snacks. A dry bag with spare clothes is optional. Water level can be checked here. The lilies should still be blooming and we should be off of the river by 5 PM depending upon how much we dally on our way down. It's a beautiful float with just enough whitewater to jazz it up. Feel free to call Us at 803-359-4002 if you have any questions. Spenser and Jean Rice will be along for safety - thanks guys. Get well soon Dennis!
